Description

The Cobalt™ Skull Cap, or "Skully," is the first hard shell skull cap made exclusively for umpires, designed in collaboration with MLB and MiLB. Featuring a new, smooth matte finish that delivers a sleek, professional look and reduced glare, the Cobalt™ offers both style and performance behind the plate.

Engineered to defend against bat backswings and add an extra layer of force reduction, it’s built like a coach’s helmet but enhanced with specialized padding, refined contours, and umpire-specific design features for baseball and softball.

The shortened bill mimics an umpire plate/combo (4-stitch) cap and fits comfortably under any brand or style of mask, not just All-Star models.

FEATURES

  • Smooth matte surface
  • Shortened bill fits with plenty of space in any umpire mask
  • Tough and durable polycarbonate shell
  • Augmented padding in key zones along sides, rear, and top for added protection against bats
  • Removable padding system is machine washable
  • Fitted S to XL sizes to fit most head sizes. All-Star took head measurements of 50 MLB umpires to get the sizing right.
  • Bill length is 1 1/2"
  • Weight: 13 ounces

I bought mine last year. I like the helmet but when it’s hot, you sweat I wear glasses and they steam up with my mask on. I have to put some anti fog cleaner on my glasses to keep them from steaming it up and I have to wear some kind of skull garment to keep the sweat from rolling in my eyes. Other than that yes I would buy it again, but these are Some of the down falls of it.

Fits well, looks great and offers more protection than my hat. Only took 1 bullpen to get use to it. I definitely would go back to a hat.
